From the medieval fortress that is Conwy Castle to its twentieth century involvement in World War II, Conwy has a fascinating history. A local engineer, Hugh Iorys Hughes, designed and built sections of the Mulberry Harbour in the Conwy Morfa area. These sections were used as part of the D Day landings in France, enabling vast numbers of troops, vehicles and supplies to be brought ashore. The Mulberry pub/restaurant on the marina today commemorates this history. In 1986 the same Conwy Morfa area was converted into a dry dock to construct the road tunnel sections under the River Conwy. Once completed the old dry dock was converted into the Marina we see today.
